As announced today on WWE.com, Curtis Axel (Joe Hennig) has been released from his WWE contract.

Starting his WWE stint in 2008, the son of WWE Hall Of Famer Mr Perfect made his main roster debut as part of the original talent show format of NXT before taking his place in the New Nexus faction.

After several years of treading water, Hennig took on the Curtis Axel name as a tribute to his father Curt and his grandfather Larry ‘The Ax’ Hennig in 2013. That same night, Axel captured his first and only Intercontinental Title under the tutelage of Paul Heyman.

Over the last couple of years, Axel has been part of comedy tag team, The B Team with Bo Dallas where they had largely been used in a supporting role on secondary shows and house shows.
