Last night’s Christmas Day edition of SmackDown was stacked with three title matches as WWE attempted to present a cracker of a show.

In the third and final of those title matches, Big E defeated Sami Zayn in the main event to capture the Intercontinental Championship.

The match had been turned into a lumberjack match in order to prevent Zayn from escaping from the match and preserving his title.

In the end, he attempted his escape amidst a brawl amongst the lumberjacks. However, a sprinting Apollo Crews was able to tackle the champion to the ground and the babyface lumberjacks carried him aloft to the ring, disposing him at the feet of Big E who hit the Big Ending for the win and the title.

The victory saw Big E win his first individual championship since 2013 and sees his post-New Day push continue.

In the first of the other two title matches, Roman Reigns defeated Kevin Owens in a steel cage rematch from the TLC PPV.

Reigns defended his Universal Championship after his cousin Jey Uso handcuffed Owens to the cage, allowing The Tribal Chief to leave the structure.

Finally, new WWE Women’s Tag Team champions Charlotte Flair and Asuka won a three way elimination bout to retain their titles. They defeated the teams of Bayley & Carmlla as well as SmackDown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks and her partner, Bianca Belair.
