On this past Friday’s edition of Talking Smack, WWE confirmed a stellar main event for next week’s SmackDown that could have implications for the Universal Championship match at Fastlane.
Following their double count out on Friday’s show, Daniel Bryan and Jey Uso will once again do battle only this time, the match will take place in a steel cage.
As with their first match, Daniel Bryan will be confirmed as Roman Reigns’ challenger if he emerges victorious.
The match came about after a confrontation between Bryan and Talking Smack co-host Paul Heyman on the show that was taped in the aftermath of the Uso/Bryan stalemate.
Heyman, who also acts as the ‘special counsel’ for Reigns, agreed to the rematch which will take place just over two weeks before the Fastlane PPV.
It was curious how much focus WWE put on a potential Fastlane tag team match that would pit Reigns and Uso against Bryan and Edge. This match will take place if Bryan is not successful in securing a title match.
In our opinion, the tease of a tag team match is not a throwaway plot point. Indulge us for one second in assuming that Bryan wins the cage match and does go on to face Reigns for the title at Fastlane. Perhaps the remaining two competitors in the equation, Edge and Jey Uso, could still compete in a tag team match.
If only they both famously had partners that had recently returned from retirement and are due to return from long term injury respectively.
