Whilst it had been widely reported as a done deal in recent days, this week’s episode of SmackDown made it official that Daniel Bryan has been added to WrestleMania’s Universal Championship match between Roman Reigns and Edge.
The now triple threat match will be the headline bout of the second night of the event on Sunday April 11th.
The change came about in storylines after Daniel Bryan demanded to be added to the match after visually tapping out the champion Reigns at Sunday’s Fastlane event. With echoes of 2014’s pre-WrestleMania ‘Occupy Raw’ moment, Bryan refused to leave the ring until a solution was found.
At first he suggested he face the winner of the already scheduled bout later in the night. He also mooted having the Edge vs. Reigns match on night one with him facing the winner on night two, similar to this year’s two-night NJPW Wrestle Kingdom’s main events.
In the end, Reigns refused to defend the title more than once so WWE official Adam Pearce solved the issue by announcing that the original bout would now be a triple threat including all three competitors.
After this announcement, the requisite fisticuffs broke about between the three men, resulting in Edge displaying his new found heel streak by blasting Daniel Bryan with a one-man conchairto. A staple in his heel arsenal back in his heyday.
WrestleMania 37 will take place over two nights on April 10th and 11th. The two cards are now starting to really shape up and you can see all you need to know about the event with our handy explainer guide right here.
