The Undertaker appeared on this week’s episode of ‘After The Bell’ with Corey Graves. Amongst a number of subjects, one thing under discussion was Taker’s opinion on ‘The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever’
Unsurprisingly, he loved it.
Taker said the match moved him so much that he would use it as a training blueprint not just for guys starting out in the Performance Center, but those already on the main roster: The Deadman said:
“It almost brought a tear to my eye. I haven’t seen that kind of wrestling match in so long. I understand the parameters and everything else, that they had a lot of time, but my God, what a story they told. An unbelievable story. I sent Edge a text today saying, ‘The next time I go to the [Performance Center] to work with guys, I’m going to pull that tape up and show these guys and dissect it — not that it won’t be dissected 100 times by then — just the little nuances of what they did. It restored so much faith in where I think the business should be and could be. That tape should be studied by our main roster guys.”
As you would expect, ‘Taker is a huge fan of old school storytelling in wrestling and appreciates that this match delivers that in spades:
“That is what professional wrestling is supposed to be. It’s great being as athletic as all these guys are, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t mean anything. When you rely solely on athleticism, you push the envelope to our audience and they are gonna get desensitized to the double backflip off the top and to the floor. It’s self-preservation. You have to work smart to make it last. The guys now are relying too much on athleticism and not enough on storytelling.”
