It has been reported that WWE taped the Edge vs. Randy Orton match set for Backlash ahead of last night’s NXT Takeover: In Your House.

We are a mere six days away from the world’s first ******** star match.

Edge vs Randy Orton is the marquee match of next Sunday’s Backlash PPV and WWE are marketing the match (And oddly, the entire event), with the sub-title ‘The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever’

It’s either the best example of troll-marketing in wrestling history or WWE are pretty blooming confident in these two to deliver. Either way, it seems that the match was taped last night ahead of NXT Takeover: In Your House, according to Dave Meltzer on last night’s Wrestling Observer Radio.

Whilst Meltzer didn’t give any details on the match, he did report that the match was taped ahead of time to indeed make it as good as possible and to enhance the in ring work in editing, presumably to add a coat of gloss to any pacing issues or potential mis-steps.

We will all see whether this match lives up to the hype when WWE Backlash airs on the WWE Network on Sunday June 14th. The full match card is as follows:

  • WWE Championship Match: Drew McIntyre vs. Lashley
  • WWE Universal Championship Match: Braun Strowman vs. John Morrison & The Miz
  • Edge vs. Randy Orton
  • Raw Women’s Championship Match: Asuka vs. Nia Jax
  • Jeff Hardy vs. Sheamus
