Seth Rollins was away from TV for a few months after Survivor Series, taking time off to be with his fiancee Becky Lynch and their first child who was born in December.
The Messiah made his return as entry number 29 at this year’s Royal Rumble and was eliminated by the eventual winner, Edge.
Speaking to Kayla Braxton on this weeks episode of WWE’s ‘The Bump’, Rollins was asked how fatherhood was treating him so far.
“Oh, it’s been great! It’s definitely a steep learning curve for me. Human babies are not like dogs or cats! It’s a lot to learn, but every day is an adventure, and it’s been a lot of fun. I’ve been enjoying the process, and I’m fortunate to have the last couple of months off to spend with my baby girl. So, it’s been good.”
He then went on to address the rumours and fan reactions after his Rumble return, namely the ones that thought he would now be a mid-card wrestler and not someone chasing titles. Rollins sees it as the opposite, that he now has the motivation to prove to his daughter, Roux, that he’s a main event superstar.
“It’s brand new motivation. I’m a little confused from the social media response that they thought I was going to come back, I don’t know, softer in some way; that I was going to come back a snowflake; that being a dad was going to make me a wimp, or that it was going to give me less conviction. Well, that’s not the case. I’ve got this beautiful girl, and she’s the motivation for everything that I do.
“I’ve got to double down and work harder. I’ve got to grind deeper on where I want to go. I can’t just sit back and think things are good. I’ve got to go harder, man. The competition is stiffer on SmackDown. I’m not going to come back and sit back and become a big softie. No, I’m going to come back and double down on my beliefs and convictions. Not for me, for her.”
This isn’t the first time Rollins has made his return to the ring. Back in 2016 he came back at Extreme Rules after being injured with a knee injury for the best part of the year.
“I get goosebumps watching that because I miss our fans so much. That’s the difference between that return and the Royal Rumble return is having that crowd reaction. Man, it’s different. That reaction is what we live for; that’s why we get into this industry is for that reaction and to share those moments with other human beings. Man, do we miss our audience. I’m looking forward to WrestleMania this year to go out there in front of a few people.”
Could we see Seth in the main event of this years WrestleMania? Even if he’s not scheduled it wouldn’t be the first time he pushed himself into the match, having made one of the most famous cash-ins of the Money in the Bank contract back in 2015!
