Recent speculation has surrounded the futures of a number of WWE Hall Of Famers and their contract status with WWE. In particular, it has been rumoured that former WCW stalwarts Sting and Ric Flair are no longer under contract with the Stamford group.
Whilst nothing official has been confirmed regarding Sting, we can put the wrestling future of Ric Flair to bed as he announced tonight, with typical Flair flair, that he has re-signed with WWE.
Scuttlebutt had linked the 16-time world champion with an association with AEW in recent days but it has always seemed likely that Flair would be going nowhere.
His daughter Charlotte is one of the biggest names on the WWE roster and Flair has been a part of a number of high profile angles in recent years. An attack on The Nature Boy by Batista was the catalyst for The Animal’s match with Triple H at WrestleMania 36 in 2019.
Later that year, Flair led a team of five heels into action at the ‘Crown Jewel’ event in Saudi Arabia to take on long time rival Hulk Hogan’s squad of heroes.
Flair’s first stint with WWE ran from 1991-1993 and took in two reigns as the WWF Champion. Flair then returned to the company in late 2002 immediately after the Invasion angle.
He retired as an in ring competitor in 2008 after an incredible WrestleMania 28 match with Shawn Michaels and a moving career tribute the following night on Raw.
