When Paul Heyman was removed as the head of Raw recently, many people worried for the immediate futures of some of Heyman’s pet projects under the new creative direction led by Bruce Prichard.
One such name that featured prominently in these discussions was Aleister Black.
Black was clearly well protected on Heyman’s watch but reports had suggested that Vince McMahon was sour on the performer, hence his reduced role recently.
However, according to Alex McCarthy at TalkSPORT, this is not the case.
According to McCarthy’s sources, McMahon is actually very high on Tom Budgen (Black’s real name) as a performer but feels he will be limited going forward by the character he plays.
The source said:
“Vince is a huge fan of the performer – and of Tommy. Size. Agility. Skill. But he is worried the character is a gimmick and will limit him,”
Furthermore, reports that McMahon has given up on Black are said to be ‘Absolute Nonsense’.
It remains to be seen whether the attack by Seth Rollins and Murphy on Raw last night lead to a significant layoff for Black. But if so, will that lead to an opportunity to change the presentation to something more appealing to McMahon long term?
