It would appear that WWE have started making slightly longer-term plans for the Universal Championship beyond Payback.
At the end of this week’s Smackdown, Roman Reigns seemingly became a ‘Paul Heyman guy’, with the advocate potentially to be in the corner of ‘The Big Dog’ on Sunday.
Reports from WrestlingNews.co claim that WWE are planning to put the title belt on Reigns at Payback, and are using Heyman to shift him to being a heel for the time being.
However, the report also comments that the former Universal Champion is expected to get a positive reaction when fans are back in the arena, and that WWE hope to make him an ultimate babyface on the same level as John Cena was.
Reigns never actually lost the Universal Championship, instead relinquishing it in October 2018 when he confirmed his leukaemia diagnosis.
