Renee Young has confirmed that last night’s SummerSlam was her last assignment with WWE.
Rumours surfaced this week that Renee Young had handed in her notice, however full details were unknown.
This has now it has been confirmed. Young appeared on the SummerSlam kickoff show and said:
“I’m so excited to be here, doing my last hurrah here with WWE”
Charly Caruso added:
“Young paved the way for so many women in WWE including herself.”
Caruso, hosted the SummerSlam kickoff, show suggesting she may step into the role permanently.
Young joined WWE in 2012 after her rave reviews for her work on The Score in her native Canada.
A big wrestling fan, she took to the wrestling world with aplomb. In 2016 she became the host of the recently relaunched Talking Smack show on the WWE Network. Her work on the show was a big part of why fans took to the format with such gusto.
In August 2018, she filled in for Jonathan Coachman for an episode of Raw as colour commentator, making her the first woman to fill that position for an entire episode. The following month she was confirmed as a permanent member of the Raw commentary team, obviously also a first. In November 2019 she moved to the SmackDown brand with her main role being the anchor of the recently cancelled ‘WWE Backstage’ show on Fox Sports.
Young’s husband Jon Moxley is the reigning AEW World Champion, prompting natural speculation that she will move to the company also. It is well known that she has many professional admirers in the industry and her options are likely to be extensive now she has left the WWE family.
