Following the example of last year’s WrestleMania and NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom, April’s NXT TakeOver will take place as a two night event.
The specials which will air on April 7th and 8th will also be spilt across two different platforms, with the April 7th part airing on the USA Network during the usual NXT timeslot and the April 8th part airing on Peacock in the USA and the WWE Network elsewhere in the world.
The announcement formed one of two ‘major announcements by NXT General Manager William Regal, with the other having an immediate impact on NXT’s suite of championships.
Already a number of matches have been set up to take place at the event although none have been confirmed. A match between NXT Champion Finn Balor and Karrion Kross looks highly likely. As does a grudge match between Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly. Io Shirai has hinted that she wants to defend her title against Raquel Gonzalez in a match that would also seem tailor-made for the event.
The two-night event now means that WrestleMania week will now stretch to an eight day extravaganza.
It will start with Raw on Monday March 5th, followed by the Hall Of Fame ceremony the following night. TakeOver will occupy Wednesday and Thursday with SmackDown taking place on the Friday before WrestleMania takes place over both weekend nights.
The famous ‘Raw After WrestleMania’ will then put a cap on an unprecedented eight night run of premium WWE content.
Be still out beating hearts!
