On last night’s episode of NXT, several new matches were announced for the ‘New Year’s Evil’ special on Wednesday January 6th.
Most excitingly, we found out that the show will see the return of the ‘Fight Pit’ as Timothy Thatcher will battle Tommaso Ciampa in Thatcher’s signature match.
We last saw this gimmick match back in May when Thatcher defeated Matt Riddle in the match with Kurt Angle as special referee. Thatcher emerged victorious in the vicious match, Riddle’s last as part of NXT before his move to the main roster.
Another match confirmed for the show was a highly anticipated clash in the women’s division as Rhea Ripley clashes with fellow powerhouse Raquel Gonzalez in a ‘Last Woman Standing’ match.
The match was announced by means of a drawing created by the host of New Year’s Evil, Dexter Lumis.
Already set in stone for the show is Finn Balor making his return to the ring to defend the NXT Championship against Kyle O’Reilly. The clash is a rematch from Balor’s last in ring appearance at NXT TakeOver 31 when he defeated O’Reilly in a brutal encountered that resulted in injuries for both men, including a broken jaw for Balor which resulted in several steel plates being inserted in his face.
Also on the card will be another in ring return following a long absence. Karrion Kross will make his return from injury to face Damian Priest. Kross was injured at NXT TakeOver 30 during the match in which he defeated Keith Lee to win the NXT Championship back in August.
NXT New Year’s Evil can be seen live in the UK on BT Sport and on the WWE Network the following week. The full card is as follows:
- NXT Championship Match: Finn Balor vs. Kyle O’Reilly
- Fight Pit Match: Tommaso Ciampa vs. Timothy Thatcher
