On last night’s episode of NXT, the qualification process continued for the ladder match to decide the new North American Champion. The match will take place at NXT Takeover XXX on Saturday 22nd August.

Last week, Keith Lee relinquished the title in order to give opportunity to other superstars on the roster. William Regal wasted no time in announcing a series of triple threat matches that would decide who qualifies for the showcase match.

Last week, Bronson Reed defeated Roderick Strong and Johnny Gargano to become the first qualifier.

This week’s match saw former WWE Universal Champion face Dexter Lumis and Timothy Thatcher.

The finish came when Thatcher caught Balor in his excellent looking ankle lock submission. The Irishman refused to tap and Lumis locked in a submission of his own, The Silence, on Thatcher, forcing him to tap and giving The Tortured Artist the win and a spot in the ladder match.

Lumis has had a steady rise up the card in NXT this year, tangling previously with The Undisputed Era, and should be considered a favoured contender in the match.
