Traditionally, AEW have a surprising debut during their pay-per-views, most recently Brian Cage at Double Or Nothing.
During the Casino Battle Royale at this year’s All Out, the final ‘wild card’ spot was filled by a debuting Matt Sydal.
Former WWE and Impact Wrestling star Sydal came out last, in to the 21-man contest to determine a number one contender to the AEW Championship.
It was an unfortunate debut for Sydal, who slipped on the top rope looking for a shooting star press.
Sydal still managed to make it to the final three before being eliminated by a combination of Eddie Kingston and Lance Archer.
The final two then battled on the apron after going over the top, with ‘The Murderhawk Monster’ Archer eventually earning the AEW World Championship shot.
We will keep an eye on whether this is a longer-term deal for Sydal.
