With Matt Riddle making an impressive start on WWE SmackDown, reports have emerged suggested he will be placed in a high profile match at SummerSlam.

Matt Riddle is clearly a superstar on the rise right now in WWE.

From his debut on SmackDown he has been treated like a superstar, with recent reports suggesting that Vince McMahon sees a lot of Shawn Michaels’ qualities in the WWE rookie. It’s easy to see why.

Now reports are emerging, courtesy of Dave Meltzer in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, that Riddle is set for a big match at SummerSlam next month.

WWE have seemingly resigned themselves to the reality that the event will be held at the Performance Centre in Orlando. The August 23rd date coming too soon to have any expectations of fans in attendance.

Rumours of various matches have begun to spring up including Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton in the main event.

Now it is being speculated that Riddle is pencilled in to face AJ Styles for the Intercontinental Title at the show.

The match makes a lot of sense. The Original Bro defeated Styles in his Smackdown debut in a stellar match. He certainly seems to be the right type of babyface with the right type of momentum to make a title win over the heel Styles feel like a big deal and an important moment.

With ‘The Horror Show At Extreme Rules’ set for next weekend (I can’t wait to stop having to type that!), we can expect to get more clarity on SummerSlam matches in the next two weeks.
