Recently in an interview conducted by Conrad Thompson, former WCW President Eric Bischoff and AEW President Tony Khan sat down to preview tomorrow night’s TV Special, ‘Fight for the Fallen’.
During the interview, Bischoff discussed his time working for WWE as Executive Director for Friday Night Smackdown, a position he held for just a few months.
“Even when I was with WWE last year, I sat down and watched both shows side-by-side and I was working with WWE at the time and I was watching it in a writer’s conference room with a bunch of other writers,”
Bischoff also went on to credit AEW for their handling of production during this pandemic in comparison to WWE.
“One of the first things that I noticed was that [AEW] is handling the production so much better. When I watched the show during COVID, the way they’re shooting the show, it’s tighter, [they] embrace the venue instead of camouflaging it. Somebody asked, ‘What did you think?’ I told him what I thought. [AEW] feels more like live TV and feels gritty enough to convince me it’s live. It feels gritty enough to feel like it’s live,”
Its been a longstanding staple in wrestling for writers and executives to deny watching competing shows but we all know that is just for show. It would be negligent not to keep tabs on the competition and Bischoff confirms WWE keep up this practise to this day.
