At SummerSlam 2005, custody of Rey Mysterio’s son Dominik was the prize in a ladder match between Mysterio and Dominik’s ‘Papi’ Eddie Guerrero.
Fifteen years later, the circle of life is complete as Dominik Mysterio will make his in ring debut at SummerSlam against Seth Rollins.
The rivalry between Rollins and the Mysterio family has been escalating over the last few months with the flashpoint being last month’s Extreme Rules event where Rollins faced Rey Mysterio in an ‘eye for an eye’ match that resulted in the veteran Luchador supposedly having one of his eyeballs removed from his socket.
Since then, Dominik has been out for for revenge against ‘The Monday Night Messiah’ and has challenged him to a match at SummerSlam. A match that Rollins accepted last night on Raw.
This will be the younger Mysterio’s first official match and it is intriguing to see how well he will acquit himself on such a big stage. The card for the event on Sunday August 23rd is shaping up very well and if reports are to be believed, we might finally be seeing an event that doesn’t take place in the Performance Center in Orlando.
SummerSlam will be available on the WWE Network and the confirmed card so far is as follows:
- WWE Championship Match: Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton
- US Championship Match: Apollo Crews vs. MVP
- Raw Tag Team Championship Match: The Street Profits vs. Andrade & Angel Garza
- Dominik Mysterio vs. Seth Rollins
