Whilst it has long been rumoured that AEW would be bringing their brand to the UK for live shows, today Cody has confirmed that once the pandemic is over the company will be heading to UK shores.
During his media call ahead of this Saturday’s Full Gear pay-per-view, Cody joked that Tony Khan was listening so he probably shouldn’t give too much away, but that it would be a “no-brainer” to come to the UK, and not just for one show.
The goal of AEW from an executive standpoint is always to expand. Discussions to expand our presence with ITV have happened. As for doing a show in the UK that’s a no brainer. I can tell you flat out when the gates open, when the world is open again we will absolutely be in the UK and I don’t think it will be for one show. You’re not a wrestler until you’ve wrestled in the UK. The fans go a different way, they go a special way.
With Tony Khan also owning Fulham FC it was seen that their Craven Cottage home would be a likely venue, however it would now seem they will be looking to tour the country whilst here.
It is also interesting to note the discussions with ITV about expanding their TV presence in the UK, although no word was given as to whether this would be the same new programming which is aimed for their third hour on TNT in the States, or something unique to Britain.
