There’s no question that there are few WWE Superstars with greater momentum right now than Bobby Lashley. The 44-year-old is already a standout candidate for 2021’s MVP, thanks to a dominant run as United States Champion and his work with The Hurt Business, and now he gets the opportunity to seal his place at the top of the WWE tree with a WWE Championship victory in a blockbuster match on tonight’s Monday Night Raw.
It’s been a long road for Lashley, who upon his debut on his first run with WWE in 2005 was primed as a future WWE Champion, and ‘The Almighty’ admitted during a recent media call we jumped on that tonight’s match is easily the biggest match he’s ever had on WWE’s most famous offering.
I have to put it right at the top, just because of what is behind it. I’ve had some great matches on Raw; I’ve beaten Roman Reigns on Raw, I had Finn Bálor on Raw, Elias on Raw, Braun Strowman on Raw and some crazy things that have been involved since I’ve been back – and they’ve all been great experiences. However, to be able to finally go for that WWE Title, I think that has to be on the top of my list. It’s a world title in WWE – you don’t get higher than this.
If Bobby is victorious tonight the golden carrot dangling next to that WWE Title win is the chance to main event WrestleMania. Not just any WrestleMania either, this year’s spectacle could potentially be the first WWE show with fans for over nearly eighteen months. And while Lashley is staying focused on the job in hand in defeating the new WWE Champion The Miz, he can’t help but look towards appearing in a match that would even eclipse his infamous WrestleMania 23’s ‘Battle of the Billionaires’ marquee match with Umaga.
I’ve tried to put those thoughts on the backburner for the moment, because I want to focus on beating Miz. But, absolutely, by beating Miz I one hundred percent believe I’ll be walking into WrestleMania to be the main event. Who against? Well, what I did to Drew McIntyre I’m sure he’s going to be looking for payback, so when I beat Miz I’ll need to keep my head on a swivel and look out for him. But if Drew is a real man, he’ll come at me, and once I’m WWE Champion, challenge me for that main event spot at WrestleMania.
Bobby Lashley as WWE Champion also prompts the same old question too, and no time with Lashley is complete without some words on a potential meeting with Brock Lesnar in a WWE ring. Yet, he’s quick to dismiss the meeting between two behemoths of the MMA game and instead continue to big up Drew McIntyre as the ‘dream’ bout he’ll set his sights on if he defeats Miz.
Of course, Brock is that mystery match, dream match and one that everyone has spoken about to me countless times before. But right now, Drew is the guy. Drew beat Brock, Drew beat Goldberg, and right now I am looking to beat the best and right now the best is Drew. When I beat Miz I think that’s the match and Drew is the guy.
