On last night’s episode of Dymamite, AEW paid tribute to the late Brodie Lee (Jon Huber) throughout the whole show.
With numerous matches featuring his Dark Order stablemates and video packages, it was a hugely emotional night and an exceptionally well put together tribute to a man who was clearly beloved by everyone in his life.
The climax of the show saw Huber’s son, Brodie Jr, completely with Dark Order mask, place his father’s wrestling boots in the middle of the ring.
Following this, AEW President Tony Khan came to the ring and presented the eight year old with the TNT Championship his father held earlier this year. He declared the boy ‘Champion for life’ and it has since been confirmed these words had more weight than we might have imagined.
On the Dynamite post-show, AEW colour commentator Tony Schiavone confirmed that the title belt presented to Brodie Jr. will be his to keep and the company will instead create a new design to be used going forward.
“Little Brodie, -1 if you will, is always going to have that TNT belt. We’ll come up with a new belt. That’ll be his. The particular belt that was given to Little Brodie tonight has been retired, not the TNT Championship itself.”
It is thought that the new design will debut when current champion Darby Allin defends it against Brian Cage on the second ‘New Year’s Smash’ show on Wednesday January 13th.
An incredibly classy gesture from AEW.
