On this day in wrestling history…WCW megastar Goldberg won his first WWE gold with a victory of Triple H.

1933 – CMLL (Then known as EMLL) promoted its first card in Mexico. As of writing, the promotion remains the world’s oldest wrestling promotion still in existence.

1999 – On a SmackDown taping in Dallas, Texas, The Rock N’ Sock Connection (The Rock and Mankind) won the WWF Tag Team Championships by defeating The New Age Outlaws. On the same show, Vince McMahon forced Triple H to wrestle against all five of his upcoming six-pack challenge opponents in their own special gimmick matches. He needed to win three of the five matches to remain in the WWE Championship match at the upcoming Unforgiven PPV. He lost to Big Show in a ‘Chokeslam Challenge’ and also lost a casket match against Mideon and Viscera (Substituting for The Undertaker). He defeated Kane in an Inferno Match, Mankind in a Boiler Room Brawl and then secured the title match spot by beating The Rock in a ‘Brahma Bullrope Match’

2002 – The Ring Of Honor Championship changed hands for the first time as Xavier defeated inaugural champion Low Ki in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

2002 – Ted Petty, best known as Rocco Rock from Public Enemy died as a result of a heart attack on the way to an event in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

2003 – WWE Unforgiven took place at The Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. In the main event Goldberg defeated Triple H to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

2004 – At a TNA Impact taping in Orlando Jordan, the NWA Tag Team Championship changed hands when James Storm and Christopher Daniels defeated Chris Harris and Elix Skipper.

2005 – Mark Copani (Muhammed Hassan) was officially released by WWE, around two months after his character was written off TV after pressure from WWE’s TV partners after a terrorist themed angle was played out on TV days after the 7/7 bombing in London, England.

2008 – On SmackDown, Primo and Epico Colon defeated Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder for the WWE Tag Team Championships.

2009 – Lilian Garcia officially left WWE after 10 years with the company.

2014 – NJPW presented the ‘Destruction in Kobe’ event. The main event saw Shinsuke Nakamura defeat Bad Luck Fale to win the IWGP Intercontinental Championship. Earlier in the show, Ryusuke Taguchi beat KUSHIDA to win the IWGP Juinor Heavyweight Championship.

2014 – The Bridgestone Arena in Nasvhille, Tennessee played host to WWE Night of Champions. A number of titles changed hands on the night. Firstly, Golddust and Stardust defeated The Usos for the WWE Tag Team Championship in a genuine brothers vs. brothers title change. The Miz defeated Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship and AJ Lee won the Divas title in a triple threat match with Paige and Nikki Bella.

2020 – The much derided RETRIBUTION faction made their in ring Raw debut when T-Bar, Mace and Slapjack lost to Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander of The Hurt Business by DQ.
