On this day in wrestling history…James Ellsworth ‘shocked the world’ by defeating the reigning WWE Champion!

1978 – The Crush Gals (Lioness Asuka & Chigusa Nagayo) defeated Bull Nakano & Condor Saito to win the AJW Best Tag Team League in Tokyo, Japan.

1996 – Ultimo Dragon won the famed J-Crown collection of championships by defeating The Great Sasuke in Osaka, Japan.

2005 – America’s Most Wanted (James Storm and Chris Harris) defeated The Naturals (Chase Stevens and Andy Douglas) to win the NWA World Tag Team Championships.

2010 – NJPW ‘Destruction 10’ took place at Sumo Hall in Tokyo. Two major title changes took place at the event. In the first, The Golden Lovers (Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi) beat Apollo 55 (Ryusuke Taguchi and Prince Devitt) to win the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships in a match voted by many as the best of the year. In the main event, Satoshi Kojima snared the IWGP Heavyweight Championship with a win over Togi Makabe.

2010 – TNA followed up the previous night’s Bound For Glory PPV by taping an episode of Impact that infamously included only six minutes of in-ring action in the two hour show.

2010 – At a SmackDown taping, Randy Orton won a 41-man battle royal to earn a shot at the WWE Championship later in the show. At the time it was the largest battle royal in WWE history. Later in the night, Orton defeated Mark Henry by disqualification in the subsequent title match.

2016 – On an episode of Smackdown, James Ellsworth defeated WWE Champion AJ Styles in a huge upset with the help of Dean Ambrose.

2019 – Friday Night SmackDown took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main event saw Bayley defeat Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
